Winter Skincare: 3 Ways To Combat Dry Skin
Friend, you can’t go without water, right? When you are parched, your body signals to you to drink water. When you listen to your body and hydrate, you are skipping those symptoms of being dehydrated (headaches, migraines, muscular stiffness, irritability, dry mouth, chapped lips).
Your skin tells you when it’s dry. It’s itchy and has a constant state of feeling like it needs moisture and nutrients to revive itself back to life. What happens when you ignore the natural God-given signals? Your dry skin is always irritated and is prone to red blotches, flaky skin and is not protected against the winter air (or whatever season you’re in).
The most common thing I have heard from women who are wanting to establish a skincare routine and deal with dry skin (but don’t) is this: “I just forget.” I get it. In the business of life, it is a daily choice to implement and stick with habits and routines. I heard it said many times over that it takes 30 days to establish a new habit that lasts. So, what if I give you 3 ways to combat dry skin that are simple and allow you to be successful?
But here’s the deal.
You have to CARE about your skin.
Just like you care about drinking water to live.
Your skin is the largest organ in your body. It is a vital barrier in protecting you from dehydration, infection, injury and harmful UV radiation.
In my opinion, dear friend, you can’t afford to forget about taking care of your skin. It has to become a part of your daily rhythm and I’m here to help you!
So, let’s get down to it. Here are 3 practical ways you can combat the irritating dry skin that you desperately want to tend to. (I know you do)
1. POST-IT NOTE A REMINDER
I know you don’t want to forget about your daily skincare routine. (And if you don’t have one, I have exactly what you need. So, stay with me here) I know that you care about your skin but it’s hard to remember when you’re bustling through your morning and evening and just want to collapse into bed at the end of the day.
So, I’m giving you a challenge. At the moment you are reading this, I want you to go and get a post-it note or a piece of paper (something small).
Write on the paper, “Do your skincare routine” or “Moisturize” or “Get all the dirt off” or “Remove all my makeup.”
You need to trigger your brain to wash your face and moisturize.
And then I want you to tape that piece of paper on your bathroom mirror or somewhere in your bathroom.
This is your reminder.
Just like your alarm clock is your reminder to get up every morning.
Don’t believe me that it’ll work? Well, it won’t work unless you have a skincare routine. That leads us to point #2.
2. WASH, TONE AND MOISTURIZE FOR DRY SKIN
Woman-woman talk over here. Let me give you an example of why having a routine or system in place is so important to our brain (and if you’re a mom, we need EXTRA help because our brains literally never stop. haha). My routine of working out 4-5 days a week is vital to my health and wellness. I have a system in place. I have a time of day that I always press play and start my workout. I know exactly what workout I am using (Nourish Move Love on YouTube, btw). I have intentionally set myself up for success in exercising by having my routine in place. Otherwise, I’m free falling every day and won’t stay consistent.
The same goes with taking care of our skin.
If you don’t have a routine, you’ll always forget.
I guarantee you.
You need to know what you’re always washing your face with. You need to know what you’re always using as your toner. You need to know what moisturizer is always combating your dry skin.
You may already have your skincare products in place and that’s great! Stay consistent and write that reminder on your post-it note and place it in the bathroom.
If you are desperately needing help with what skincare products to use for dry skin, I’m here to help. Truly. I believe 100% in what I offer and use myself!
The Best Skincare Routine for Dry Skin
Here is what I recommend:
Step 1: Cleanse with Honey
Use the Honey Facial Cleanser as your first step to your skincare routine. I have an entire blog post on why honey is so incredibly beneficial for your skin! I personally wash my face with raw honey once in the morning and once at night. Raw honey is a natural humectant, meaning it draws moisture into your dry skin while gently cleansing.
Step 2: Tone and Balance
Use an alcohol-free witch hazel toner to tone your skin, control oil, and reduce inflammation that shows itself through redness, acne and irritating dry skin. This step is crucial for preparing your dry skin to absorb moisture.
Step 3: Moisturize and Seal
Use a natural and organic moisturizer that contains all things God has already given us in His creation (shea butter, coconut oil, beeswax, vitamin E, arrowroot powder and essential oils). I cannot stress enough the importance of using a moisturizer that you trust through all seasons of life. This creates a protective barrier that locks moisture into dry skin and prevents further moisture loss.
So, to wrap point #2 up, you need to have a routine in place in order to remain consistent and to not forget! Start today. Make it a priority to establish your routine and stick with it.
3. HUMIDIFY YOUR HOME + DRINK AND EAT WHOLE FOODS
The dryer air in the winter is a huge reason why we all deal with dry skin and dry scalp. It is so important to take this into consideration when you’re thinking about the external reasons for dry skin. Consider using a trusted humidifier. This will drastically improve the moisture in your home and help combat dry skin from the inside out!
Hydrate Your Dry Skin From Within
And lastly, I cannot tell you enough how important it is to be giving your body what it needs to thrive. What are you drinking on a daily basis? For me, it’s water w/electrolytes, tea with honey, some milk and occasionally an Olipop =)
What are you putting into your body?
Wholefoods or processed / sugar?
All of this affects our skin.
And I know it’s a lot to review and try to change. But I want to offer you a question that may help you in the days and weeks to come. When you’re about to drink something or eat something, ask yourself this, “Will this give me energy and give my skin glow or will it steal my energy and glow?”
Asking ourselves intentional questions often helps =)

How often should I moisturize dry skin? You should moisturize dry skin at least twice daily—once in the morning and once at night after cleansing and toning.
What’s the best natural remedy for dry skin? Raw honey is one of the best natural remedies for dry skin because it’s a humectant that draws moisture into the skin while providing antibacterial benefits.
